The Marino Lab at the University of Pennsylvania

The Marino Lab is in the Department of Pathobiology at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. We study the arms race between bacteria and their phages using molecular, genetic, and biochemical approaches. We are particularly interested in discovering and exploring novel mechanisms that phages use to overcome bacterial defense systems, including CRISPR-Cas. By understanding the coevolution between bacteria and their phages, we seek to expand and improve therapies and biotechnologies.
